Mount Gillen,
MacDonnel Ranges
Mount Gillon is a spot that is viewable from pretty much anywhere in Alice Springs. It caught our eye the fist night in our new home. From our back door, you can see Gillen. The sun sets on it, changing colors at least 10 times in a matter of minutes. As you head out of town on Larapinta Drive, you will pass the famous Alice Springs Desert Park. About 1 kilometer down on the left is Flynn's Grave. Gillen is the tip on the end of this part of the Range. You can see it in the first photo. From Flynns grave, you can hike up to the point of Gillen. Proceed from the Grave, looks like a big marble, head east and there is a gate. The path will lead you to the top of the mount. Not a short walk though. It will probably take you about 2-3 hours to get to the top. some of the photos below are what we saw. Personal favorite is Gillon10. It looks almost unreal. Mystical in a way. The sun has a way of doing that. I wish I could figure it out, I would use it in all my photos. :-)
Feel like borrowing some of my photos, great, email us, try galamso@ozemail.com.au
